Heaven has gained a new Yellow Rose of Texas.
It is with our deepest sadness that we announce the passing of our mother, Patsy McLean. She was a loving wife, mother, mother-in-law, sister, grand and great-grandmother, Christian, teacher and friend to all.
She passed on November 8, 2023 while under the care of the VNA Hospice and Pelican Landing Assisted Living Memory Care in Sebastian Florida. Patsy believed in “Bloom where you are planted” and she lived by that motto everyday while living in Florida!
Patsy was born on January 11, 1936 in Robstown, Texas to Benjamin Franklin Gabbert and Ruth Frances Merritt Gabbert.
Patsy attended Brownsville public schools and graduated from the University of Houston with a degree in Education. Teaching was one of the loves of her life. She taught 3rd grade at Lantern Lane Elementary in Missouri City, Texas. Patsy was a lifelong member of the First United Methodist Church being active in many ministries. Her favorite was Stitches of Glory at the First United Methodist Church of Houston—West Campus and was very active in her Sunday School class. She will be missed by many of her friends in Houston and Florida where she lived for the last five years. She had been active in Girl Scouts, Methodist Hospital Lay Ministry Program, Bible study and Happy Hikers walking club (American Volksmarch.) In her spare time, she loved reading, walking, quilting, going to South Padre Island, visiting with her many friends and getting together with the Eating Meeting group from Brownsville, Texas. She always treasured her family and especially her four grandchildren and great-granddaughter.
She is survived by her children; David McLean, Mary Grace McLean Murphy (Pat), brother; Ben Gabbert (Crystal, Chris and Benji) Grandchildren; Megan Geiger (Peter and Florence), Katie Lynn Murphy, Robert McLean (Joy) and Andrew McLean. She also leaves behind cousins and friends. Patsy is predeceased by her husband, Robert John (Bob) McLean.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Brownsville, Texas in 2024. Date to be determined.
Memorial contributions may be made, in her memory, to Aging Matters in Brevard directed towards Meals on Wheels or to a charity of your choice. (www.agingmattersbrevard.org)

Lovely obit. She was a wonderful woman, the oldest grandchild of Arthur Merritt, St. and Annabelle Schutze Merritt of Nueces County, Texas. I loved her and enjoyed her company and that of her husband Bob McLean. Spent many happy times with them.
