Paul Shrager, PhD

July 11, 1945 ~ July 17, 2020

Paul Shrager passed from this life unexpectedly at home on July 17th, 2020. Paul was born in Salt Lake City, Utah, the son of Melba and Jack Shrager.

He lived in Utah, California, Texas, Pennsylvania, Switzerland and New Hampshire prior to retiring and moving to sunny Florida.

Paul graduated from the University of Pennsylvania and received his PhD in physics from the University of Lausanne. He began his career in the field of Nuclear research in Switzerland and changed fields when he discovered a passion for computers. He was an innovator in the computer industry focusing on High Availability software and Disaster Tolerant computing. Paul was a technical director and software engineering manager at Digital Equipment Corporation. During the 1990’s Paul developed an Enterprise software fault-tolerant solution that was used among major stock exchanges to provide continuous computing anywhere in the world. He later joined Marathon Technologies as the Vice President of Europe. He traveled extensively throughout Europe and Internationally.

He was a dearly beloved husband of 24 years, a true soulmate to his wife. He was known for telling jokes and inspiring laughter. Although a brilliant man, he was able to relate to anyone at any level.

He enjoyed skiing, traveling, and helping computer challenged friends and family. He is survived by his wife Georjean Shrager, his brothers Hugh Shrager, and Jim Shrager, numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed.

I will miss him dearly he was a great friend and a great cousin. I will always remember him when he was about 19 he dressed in a suit a top coat and a hat. Came with Grandma Halverson to my daughters funeral. Back in 1963 he put his arm around me and said everything will be alright. I know it will be for Gigi too. Fly high with the Angels until we meet again.
Love you and Gigi

My love and deepest sympathy to Georjean and the Shrager family. Over many years, my life has been greatly enriched knowing Paul and Georjean.

When Paul was technical director and software engineering manager at Digital Equipment Corporation, I was his global marketing manager. He was by far the best manager I ever had. Leading a diversified engineering team in a highly competitive environment, Paul found time for humor and after-work get togethers. While in Switzerland, he introduced me to Georjean and we immediately became friends. When I left Digital, Paul and Georjean remained in my life and I was her maid of honor when they married 24 years ago. Over the years we shared many, many special times together including birthdays, holidays, vacations, international travels. Paul and Gigi became my extended family. With a heavy heart, I will miss Paul.

My dear friends Paul and Gigi got me through my own tough time. We shared lots of great meals, wine of course and conversation. Paul’ s wicked sense of humor matched up to mine and we exchanged many a joke. This season is so sad, Gigi but my heart is with you.
Love, Kerrie

Paul is someone who I owe a lot to. He hired me to his team in Switzerland, to build something that defined the rest of my professional life. Later he arranged for me and my family to relocate to the USA. When the recession of 2009 happened, he immediately offered me the opportunity to work with him one more time. My family will fondly remember both Paul and Georjean for their fun company and the fabulous entertaining they so excelled in. Will miss him greatly.

My love and sympathy to you Georjean. I know how close you two have been and how many good things in life you have experienced together.

It has been a privilege to share so many life experiences with Paul over the past 30 years. He really changed the course of my life. His intelligence and humor will be sorely missed, as will all the social times we have shared.

You will always be welcome to be part of our lives Georjean. I hope we are able to spend time with you soon.

Such sad news – you will be sorely missed by many, Paul, but most of all GiGi – you have been each other’s rock for many, many moons & I know you will comfort her from afar as we do our best to support her from near.
I still tell your John Wayne joke from the Eisenbaehnli & remember with a laugh you comforting my little sister when she thought Robbie was arrested at his wedding, but mostly I thank you from the bottom of my heart for your continued true friendship & support over the past 44 years, both in Switzerland & here in Florida.
Hoping GiGi & I may one day still take that cross-Atlantic cruise & raise many a glass of wine to your joyful spirit xxx

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
