Richard George “Dick” Hudnet passed away on December 15, 2024, after succumbing to Alzheimer’s Disease. He was born in Baltimore, MD, on February 27,1943. As a young boy, Richard attended McDonough Military Academy on a tennis scholarship. He later attended Southern High School in West River, MD, where he graduated in 1961 and served as captain of the basketball team.
Upon graduation, Richard joined the U.S. Navy and married his high school sweetheart, the late Maren Dedelow. Together, they had two children, Russell Scott Anglim and Joyce Lynn Van Orden. He graduated from the U.S. Naval Training Center in Great Lakes, IL, as the distinguished Honor Man of his company. Richard was stationed in Pensacola, FL, and Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, during the Bay of Pigs, serving as a Communications Specialist. He completed his final Naval assignment in San Diego, CA.
Richard later moved to Jupiter, FL, to join his family and worked as a Service Representative with Southeastern Toyota in Lake Park, FL, Huntsville, AL, and Atlanta, GA. He was passionate about drag racing and was well-known in the South Florida racing circuit as both a driver and enthusiast. Richard was also recognized locally as the Manager of Treasure Coast Boating in Stuart.
Richard, fondly known as “Dick,” was married to Lana Merchant for 47 years. He is survived by his loving wife, Lana, and his six children: Russell Scott Anglim, Joyce Lynn (George) Van Orden, Michael (Erika) Hudnet, Daniel (Cecilia) Hudnet, Russell George (Nicole) Hudnet, and Jessica Rose Hudnet. Additionally, he leaves behind seven grandchildren: Tyler Scott Anglim, Travis James Anglim, George Kyle (Kaylyn) Van Orden, Laura Caitlin Van Orden (Joey) Lezotte, Jack Dalton (Rachel) Van Orden, Zachary Hudnet, and Savannah Rose Hudnet, as well as two great-grandchildren, George Marshall Van Orden and Carter Neal Van Orden.
Richard was predeceased by his parents, George T. and Mary M. Hudnet of Annapolis, MD, and Hobe Sound, FL. He also leaves behind his siblings: George T. Hudnet, Jr. of Baltimore, MD, Ronald T. (Edna Mae) Hudnet, Sr. of Lecanto, FL, and
Dr. Rosemary V. Barnett of Gainesville, FL. He was a beloved uncle to Ronald T. Hudnet, Jr., Brian J. Hudnet, Lauren J. Barnett, and Morgan L. Hathaway.

Best brother anyone could ever have. Dick was a fantastic father who love spending time with them on and off the track. Miss you brother and will see you on the other side.
