Richard Lee Eyler, 86, of Sebastian Florida, died peacefully on Thursday, July 20, 2023, in the care of VNA Hospice House, Vero Beach Florida after 6 years of at home care by his loving wife Gloria. Born November 10, 1936 in Rocky Ridge, MD. He was the son of the late Charles F. Eyler Sr. and Oneida Welty Eyler. He was the beloved husband of Gloria A. Eyler, surviving, to whom he was married for 62 years.
He was a full-time resident of Sebastian, Florida since 2012, and a former resident of Taneytown MD and Hanover PA. He graduated from Thurmont High School in 1955, and served his country in the U.S. Navy 1955-1959. He was a member of the Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church of Rocky Ridge MD. He was a lifetime member of the Harney VFW and a member of the Taneytown American Legion.
He retired from the 3M Company in Westminster MD in 1995 as a supervisor. After retirement he had a picture framing business and enjoyed attending craft shows and creating unique handmade frames for friends and family.
He enjoyed, fishing, camping, travelling, woodworking, photography, and turkey hunting with his lifelong friends Jim Troxell and Jim Bittner, but most of all he enjoyed spending time with friends and family.
Surviving are sons, Steven Eyler and wife Sharon of York PA, Stuart Eyler and companion Alicia Santos, of Princess Anne, MD, daughter, Stephanie Eyler Bohn and husband Rick of Taneytown; brother, Frances Eyler of Hanover, PA, brother in law, Richard Dinterman of Detour, sister in law Thelma Byard and husband Terry, brother in law Donald Herring and wife Vonnie, and sister in law Sharon Keiholtz ; 7 grandchildren, Casey Lehr, Sam Eyler, Sarah Bohn, Rachel Devilbiss, Shawn Eyler, Seth Eyler, and Slade Eyler; 4 great-grandchildren, Nichole, McKenzie, Blayde, and Sawyer; Special friends and neighbors, Greg Staufenberg, George and Carolyn Margis.
He was predeceased by brother, Charles F. Eyler, sisters, Betty Lemmon, Doris Schildt, Dorothy Ambrose, and Josephine Dinterman.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Richard’s name may be made to the Mt. Tabor Lutheran Church, 10043 Longs Mill Rd., Rocky Ridge, MD 21778 or the USO (supporting our US service members) United Service Organizations, PO Box 96860, Washington, DC 20077-7677.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
