Robert “Bob” Stewart, age 85, leaves behind a legacy of service, devotion, kindness, and love. Born in New York City on December 28, 1940, he was the eldest of eight children born to Robert Stewart Sr. and Dorothy (Stack) Stewart. Throughout his life, Bob remained deeply committed to the people and community he held dear, offering those around him a steady presence, a generous heart, and a warm smile.

A proud veteran, Bob served in the U.S. Army from 1958 to 1960. Upon returning to New York, he joined the New York Police Department in 1965, beginning a distinguished career of more than 30 years dedicated to protecting and serving others. He retired as a captain in 1996.

Bob was a devoted husband to his beloved wife of 63 years, Catherine (Mooney) Stewart, and an adoring father to Suzanne Ellis and Michael Stewart. To those who knew him, Bob was the measure of a man: kind beyond measure, gentle in spirit, and fiercely loyal and devoted to his family and friends. He greeted everyone with a warm, genuine smile that could brighten anyone’s day. A calming presence, he was always ready to offer sage advice, words of encouragement, or a sympathetic ear.

Bob had an insatiable curiosity and took great pleasure in discovering a new recipe or an unusual historical fact to share in conversation. He loved to laugh and regale others with stories from his years as a police officer and tales of the many places he had visited throughout his life. Above all, he cherished his family and took immense pride in sharing their accomplishments.

Bob was predeceased by his sister Patricia Stephens and her husband Rich; his sister Joanne Miller and her husband John; his brother Thomas Stewart and his wife Eileen; his brother Michael Stewart; and his brother-in-law Thomas Mooney.

He is survived by his loving wife, Catherine; his children and their spouses, Suzanne and John Ellis and Michael and Kristin Stewart; his grandchildren, Kathryn Ellis, Tierney Davenport, William Stewart, and Emma Stewart; his brother, Jack Stewart, and his partner, Joanne Kerzner; his sister, Suzanne Williams, and her husband, Grant; and his sister, Dorothy Manoes, and her husband, George. He is also survived by Allison, the wife of his late brother Michael; and Theresa, the wife of his late brother-in-law Thomas Mooney.

A Funeral Mass will be held at a later date.
