Robert (Bobby) G Leitner April 22, 1947-April 27, 2021, was the son of George Leitner and Rose Leitner (nee Ross). Mr. Leitner spent his early life in Brooklyn and Queens, New York. He was a graduate of Brooklyn Tech vocational school. He served his country as a radioman in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam Era. Bobby was an early adopter and builder of home computers starting in the 1970’s. He created fledgling video games and composed electronic music in 8-bit format. He also dabbled in video and audio editing and recording. In 1990 Mr. Leitner was severely injured in an auto accident which left him a double amputee. It was then that he began his career as BATMAN. Mr. Leitner’s wise investments allowed him to continue and greatly expand his technological experiments. His similarities to BATMAN did not stop at technology and scientific pursuits: he existed mostly at night, drove a black, stealthy, muscle car into an underground lair and lived an unassuming alter ego during the daytime hours. He has successfully kept supervillains away from both the Hopewell Junction, NY and Vero Beach, Fl areas for the past 30-plus years and his legendary exploits will no doubt keep them at bay for years to come. (You’re welcome, citizens) Bobby will be painfully missed, not only for his eclectic tastes in books, television, movies and music but mostly for his excellent sense of humor and generous nature. Mr. Leitner never married and is survived by his loyal sister, Patricia Bromberg and her sons-his loving nephews, Michael, Jeffry and Daniel Diaz. He also leaves behind an extended family which includes Michael’s son, DJ (Derek) Poelmans and Daniel’s wife, Jeanette and their children Jacob and Maya Diaz. A celebration of life will be held in New York TBA.
