Robert Clifford Decker (Bob to his friends, family and coworkers) passed away peacefully in his sleep on June 14, 2026, at his home in Vero Beach, Florida, surrounded by his loving family. He was 85 years old.
Born on August 2, 1940, Bob lived a life defined by devotion to his family, steadfast faith, and service to his country. He was the beloved husband of Margaret Louise “Margie” Decker (November 23, 1940 – September 26, 2024). Together they shared 60 years of marriage, building a life centered on love, commitment, and family.
Bob graduated from Hawthorne High School and, at the age of 18, enlisted in the United States Navy from 1958 until 1962. He proudly served aboard an Aircraft Carrier USS Wasp, where he worked as a firefighter, serving his country with honor and dedication.
After completing his military service, Bob moved into the corporate work and worked in a management position at Nabisco. Then in the mid-seventies he joined Dole Foods as a Project Manager. Then in 1979, Dole transferred Bob and his family to Long Island, New York. Dole had an office in Hauppauge. Bob, Margie Bonnie and Todd would move into a house in Miller place, where they would go on to make memories that would last a lifetime. Bob and his family stayed in Miller Place for seventeen years, before Bob and Margie decided to retire to Vero Beach, Florida in August, 1996.
Bob was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Margie, and his parents, Richard and Nancy Decker. He is survived by his loving daughter, Bonnie Jean Decker, and son, Todd Robert Decker; his cherished grandchildren, Cole and Skyler; his brother, Albert Decker; and his sister, Ruth Hall. He also leaves behind many extended family members and friends who will miss him dearly.
Those who knew Bob, will remember him as a man of quiet strength, integrity, and unwavering devotion. The two most important things in his life were family and faith, and he demonstrated those values every day through his actions, kindness, and example. He found great joy in spending time with those he loved and took pride in the family he and Margie built together.
Bob’s legacy lives on in the lives he touched, the values he instilled, and the love he shared. Though he will be deeply missed, his family takes comfort in knowing he is reunited with Margie and resting peacefully in God’s care.

For those 17 years in Miller Place my husband & I were right across the street. We were neighbors & good friends who shared so many memories, all filled with laughter. We made more memories after their move to Fl. We will think of them both with love & smiles.

I am grateful for Uncle Bob for being a good uncle to me, a good brother to my mom, and a good example of love and responsibility.

Daddy, I know immediate family should not write a condolence on the obituary page. But you were upset when only 7 people wrote on moms. I feel terrible there are none on yours. You are such a wonderful strong person, family member, man, relative and friend. It pains me to see no one has written one. That’s why I decided to write you daddy. Todd suggested it’s because of social media. Well, everyone let’s get back to old school. Let’s do the right thing here. I guess it’s my opinion. But I say what I feel. And, again, I know how it bothered father so about my moms.
Daddy, I miss you so so much and I’m in so much pain I’ve never felt such pain before. We’ve had many discussions before you left to be with the lord about how much we meant to each other. We were very lucky and had a very special father daughter relationship. I was the luckiest little girl in the world for the Good Lord to have picked you to be my father. I am truly blessed beyond words. I could not have picked a better father. You’ve helped me in any way you could, good times and bad you were always there for me my whole life up until the day you passed. I am truly honored to call you my father, my hero. You are such a good faithful man. I saw it right before my eyes when you spoke to God. He listened to you and it was breathtaking it took my breath away from me. We had some beautiful days when you came home from the hospital in to home hospice. You were so happy to be home. I was so happy to have you home. I am so so happy that I have those cherished memories with you and the kids. You were feeling pretty good and happy. We are blessed with the memories and some pictures too. Daddy I thank you more than I can ever ever say for everything you ever done for me. Being there for me all the time. In all my hardships, troubles. You didn’t deserve it. And I’m so sorry. I don’t know what I will do with out you daddy. The pain is so excruciating. I miss you so much it feels like a piece of my life has been taken and is gone forever. Which it has been. It’s tearing me to pieces. I have such good memories as a little girl with you. We always did things fun exciting things together I remember everything that you did with me I will never ever loose those memories dad. You absolutely are the best father, a man of strong faith. God showed you that by answering your prayers. Daddy I will always miss you and it will always always hurt until we meet again with God above rest in peace daddy you deserve it. You have suffered far too long and too much. I am the number one witness living with you and going to doctor appointments and all your hospital stays. You deserve the best and no suffering and you’re with the best the good Lord I love you more than anything daddy God bless you my sweet sweet father Until we meet again God bless you and mom Give mom a kiss and tell her I love her. Love you forever your devoted daughter Bonnie Jean

I always remember the fun times I had growing up with you Bonnie and you your family. We would sit around the table in your den and play crazy 8s with your Mom and Dad and they would laugh as we would sing Donnie and Marie songs on the fireplace hearth. . Both your parents were wonderful people and I’m glad I had the pleasure of growing up across the street from them. I’m so sorry for your loss and I will always remember the good times we had and I will always be here for you Bonnie.. I love you always….Mary Sugrue
