Rodger Szekeres passed away on July 12, 2023 at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach, FL, after a short battle with cancer. He leaves behind his wife, Paula Szekeres and stepdaughter, Roxanne Berend.
He was born on May 2, 1958 in Bridgeport, CT to Louis Szekeres and Shirley Rumble Szekeres. He grew up in Trumbull, CT in a large loving family of three brothers and three sisters.
Rodger married his wife, Paula (Rapp), in July 2000, and they lived in Sandy Hook, CT for a time before moving to Port Charlotte, FL in 2004 and finally settling in Vero Beach, FL.
He learned many skills in life and could fix or build anything. He was also an accomplished chef and loved cooking for others. He worked most of his life as a Maintenance Director in the healthcare industry, and retired from Florida Center for Recovery in Fort Pierce, FL in January of 2022.
Rodger had an enormous heart and a wonderful sense of humor. He made a lasting impression on everyone he met. He enjoyed traveling with his wife and visited many exciting and beautiful destinations, including, Hawaii, Aruba and the Grand Canyon. He particularly enjoyed their frequent visits to Las Vegas and loved the desert. He also had a passion for golf and fishing.
In addition to his wife, Rodger is survived by his stepdaughter, as well as sisters, Adeline (Mark) Hazzard, Suzanne (Raymond) Meeker, Jessica (Bill) Nitsche, and brothers Aaron (Susan) Szekeres and John Szekeres. He is predeceased by his parents, Louis and Shirley Szekeres, brother David Szekeres, and nephew Kevin Szekeres.
A Celebration of Life will be held in Connecticut and will be announced at a later date. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Wounded Warrior Project.

I worked with Roger at St. Joseph’s Manor when we were both quite young. The photo captures the young man I remember . . . My condolences to his family and the many people who loved him.

My condolences to the all the Szekeres family. I’ve known Rodger and family from way back at St Joe’s Manor days and many years after. He was always full of life and laughter. Glad to have known you as a friend Rodger. RIP.

Rodger’s grandparents were my next door neighbors in Trumbull; and created a large and caring family.
