William “Bill” Earl Hawkins

August 31, 1951 ~ April 30, 2022

William “Bill” Earl Hawkins, 70, of Fort Pierce, Florida, passed away peacefully on April 30, 2022, at VNA Hospice House in Vero Beach.

He was born August 31, 1951, in Lake Worth, FL and had been a resident of Fort Pierce for 35 years coming from Lake Worth.

Bill graduated from John I. Leonard High School in Lake Worth in 1969. Upon graduating Mr. Hawkins enlisted and proudly served in the United States Navy. Following his time in the service he began a 28-year career in maintenance work for the public school systems of Palm Beach & St. Lucie Counties and Indian River State College. He retired in 2018.

Bill was a longtime member of the Highpoint Church. He loved wholeheartedly. He loved his Lord, his wife & family and his country. When he wasn’t busy tinkering or working in his barn he enjoyed fishing, bike riding and lifting weights.

His friends and loved ones describe Bill as loyal, dependable, funny and disciplined. His wife, May described him as “steady.” He was her rock and she took comfort in him in times of uncertainty.

He leaves his memories to be cherished by his wife of 32 years, May Oyco Hawkins; children, William Ira Hawkins, Beverlee Suzanne Hawkins, Kristine Kay Becker and Hannah Hope Hawkins; sister, Lynda Freeman and grandchildren, Bryce Deans, Kaylee Deans, Ryan Hawkins, Maryann Hawkins and Timothy Britt Becker. He was predeceased by his parents, William Bertram and Mary Kate Hawkins.

A “strong, silent” type, is how I would describe Bill. In the short time that I knew him, he always had a quick smile. As I will see that smile again, its farewell for now.
Love you May and am here for you whenever or whatever you need.

I have countless magnificent memories of my Uncle Bill! I will ALWAYS remember him for being one of the most compassionate men I have EVER known. I know that his loss will leave a hole in the hearts of many. But 2 Corinthians 5:8 holds a promise of hope! “To be absent from the body is to be present with Christ”, & I TRULY BELIEVE He was blessed to hear, “well done my good & faithful servant.”
So until the circle is unbroken. I LOVE YOU & WILL BE LOOKING FORWARD TO THAT DAY!

Bill was as true a friend as anyone ever could be. He gave of himself without prejudice. As one who is not as handy as he would like, Bill was there to help more than once. His kindness will be missed by many. Our love and prayers are with the family.

Over 30 years of Friendship, wow how time flies! Thankful to have eternity together!! I never forget how quick you were to volunteer to help. Whether it be building stuff at church or helping me put together a chicken coop. I’ll never forget the plays at church. You were the best Roman Guard! Fishing with you, our playing games, your quick wit will be missed! I pray God bless May with that peace that surpasses all understanding! Love ya May and Bill!!

“Uncle” Bill was my brother-in-law. My children and I have been blessed with this special man for 32 years. Uncle Bill had a quiet strength and mild demeanor but that does not keep him from trying to be funny. He was my handyman. He could do pretty much anything and he never complained. He was always willing to help. He loved my sister May and worked hard for their family. He will be sorely missed but knowing his constant love for Jesus, we know where he is and he is smiling and loving them from afar.

Bill was a servant, a kind man and to some very funny. I remember back when my daughter Jennifer and I used to greet at the door he would come to keep us company and tell jokes. He is no longer in pain but in God’s arms waiting to meet us again to celebrate our Father. He will be missed.
Our prayers and love are with the family.
May we love you

  • The service from Millennium was outstanding. Rachel was sweet, personable and very comforting. It was important to me that my dad was kept locally where I knew where he would be. Very nice facility, state of the art and quality of my fathers remains were so refined compared to my mothers years ago. I highly recommend this place for an affordable choice for your loved one. Thank you for making an already stressful event easy. With high regards, the Esposito and Keith Family.

  • Millennium Cremation provided a fantastic service to our family at a difficult time. Our beloved mother passed away in Vero Beach and the rest of the family was in other parts of the country. Due to the Covid health crisis, none of us could get to Vero Beach in person. That's where Millennium took over. They helped us manage everything, coordinated with a cemetery in Maine, managed the obituaries, expedited all the paperwork, and even delivered an important document locally that saved us days. Funeral director Rachel was a godsend, and she made it clear what she was going to do, and what we needed to do. If you know what you want, Millennium is highly recommended, and the savings versus the full service mortuaries is significant.
