William “Bill” Raedder Gustavson, Sr.

November 10, 1951 ~ January 28, 2025

Bill departed this world on January 28, 2025, from Fort Pierce, Florida. He was born in Catskill, NY on November 10, 1951 to Carl and Enid (Raedder) Gustavson. He joined the US Army in 1971 and served during the Viet Nam era, stationed in South Korea in the Nike Hercules Missile Program.

In his early years he worked in the mason and construction trades. He was an avid fisherman and hunter, with many stories and trophies. In 1980 he began his career in the US Postal Service in Lake Worth, Fl. He managed the Lantana, Florida branch, and in 1989 transferred to a Mail handler’s position in Albany, NY, where he retired in 2007. After retirement, he drove a school bus for the Cairo-Durham School District for 8 years, retiring to Fort Pierce, Florida.
In his retirement years, Bill enjoyed going to yard sales and buying used fishing equipment, restoring it, and reselling it. He also enjoyed winning at the Seminole Casino.

Bill was a member of the American Legion, both in Cairo, NY, and later in Port St. Lucie, Fl. He was also a lifetime member of the BPOE in Catskill, NY.

Bill is survived by his wife of 48 years, Claire (Hansson). His son, Will (Jennifer) and daughter, Amanda (Mike) Snedeker. Brother Gary, and sister Elissa (David) LaPerna. He was “Grandpa Bill” to Shay, Grace, and Bella Snedeker. Also survived by his sisters-in-law, Kathy (George) Sperry and Brenda Hansson, as well as cousins, nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his son, James, in 1982, his parents, and many lifelong friends.

Bill will be cremated and his ashes interred in the family plot in the Winston Cemetery in East Durham, NY, this summer.
